NH map Come visit us in Sandwich, New Hampshire, one of the most picturesque villages in the White Mountains. It is also the birthplace of the league of New Hampshire Craftsmen.

Our nearly one hundred square mile township encompasses the rugged Sandwich Range Mountains, Ossipee Mountains, the White Mountain National Forest and Squam Lake (a pristine, largely undeveloped lake and New Hampshire's second largest).

  • We are only a short drive from North Conway and Meredith, yet enjoy the peace and quiet of a rural community at the edge of untouched wilderness.
  • Sandwich, New Hampshire is home to a total of 131 mountain summits and peaks.
  • Our township has over seventy miles of gravel roads that pass by grand old summer estates and spectacular countryside. There is a mountain vista at nearly every turn.
  • We are blessed with a number of mountain trout streams and rivers, eight trout ponds (many remote) and a grand crystal clear lake.
  • The Sandwich area has been the subject of both regional and nationally recognized photographers, writers and artists.

The White Mountain National Forest

Mount WashingtonMost of New Hampshire's mountain peaks over 4,000 feet high are located in the White Mountain National Forest and more than 100 miles of the Appalachian Trail traverses this famous forest.

The main body of the National Forest includes the Presidential Range and many other ranges. Five Federal Wilderness Areas exist within the Forest.

Because of its beauty, its proximity to major metropolitan areas, its 1,200 miles of hiking trails, 23 campgrounds, and the presence of a large number of ski areas within or near its boundaries, the White Mountain National Forest is one of the most visited national sites in the United States.

Squam Lake

The Squam Lakes, located 40 miles north of Concord, are natural, spring-fed bodies of water consisting of a small and large lake connected by a channel. While the islands on the lakes are part of its unique landscape, the coves are quiet and a perfect haven for nesting loons and other wildlife.
